History

I needed to get back on a stage. That’s what started it. I answered a Recycler ad of a progressive rock band looking for a singer. I spoke to Chris (drums/vocals) on the phone, making easy conversation, and then setup an audition time. Showed up, met Sean (guitars) and James (bass) and we jumped right into Dream Theater’s Metropolis (Part 1). From the first few notes, I knew I wanted to play with these guys. They were (are) phenomenal musicians. To this day I’ve not played with a more talented group of guys.

I sang for Prymary for a couple of years. We did a few shows in the Inland Empire area and played two shows at The Loft in Pasadena before it closed. As with most bands, disagreements on commitment occurred and we parted ways. I’ve been to a few of their shows since and am on great terms with the guys. It was a really fun time in my life singing for Prymary.

Live at The Loft

Track:
The Tanglebox
Musicians: John Martin (Vocals), Chris Quirarte (Drums), Sean Entriken (Guitars), James Sherwood (Bass), Robert Quirarte (Keyboards)
Year: 1998
Notes: My favorite of all the Prymary songs. The Kansas-esque middle gets me every time. Of all the songs we performed live, I was always most proud to sing this.

Track: The Waiting
Musicians: John Martin (Vocals), Chris Quirarte (Drums), Sean Entriken (Guitars), James Sherwood (Bass), Robert Quirarte (Keyboards)
Year: 1998
Notes: The dueling vocals in the verses have always stood out to me on this performance. The song itself is a bit of a creeper and one we didn’t play too often.

Track: Common Ground
Musicians: John Martin (Vocals), Chris Quirarte (Drums), Sean Entriken (Guitars), James Sherwood (Bass), Robert Quirarte (Keyboards)
Year: 1998
Notes: Always the final song of the show and when you get to the ending you’ll know why. Fun fact: I had a very, very hard time counting the measures in this track and was constantly blowing my entrance. You’ll even hear the guys try adjusting to it. See if you can catch it.
