History
Will Mott and I tried to make Coveted Souls work for a few years after the recording of Defiled. We brought in different members, tried changing the sound a little bit, but in the end realized it just wasn’t working. Instead we found it easier to just write and record together. We did several recordings on a Tascam PortaStudio 4-track cassette that Will had bought. At one point in time, we actually went back into a “studio” and laid down a new demo but that tape has been lost to time with the 4-track recordings.

What I do still have are the pieces we recorded after we’d both started recording on our computers...


Demos

Track: Between You & I (Cathedral Mix)

Notes: The lyrics for this song were written as I was entering the first adult relationship of my life. As I began to encounter new feelings and ideas these words started to pour out of me. Will & I got together for a practice session and a new piece he’d just written instantly cemented with my lyrics. Within a few hours we had recorded the first demo. I can’t recall if this mix is based off that session or a follow-up. To this day I think this is the best song Will & I ever wrote together.

Notes: A cover of Foo Fighter’s Everlong. Don’t hold it against Will that guitar sounds like crap. I forgot to tune it before I gave it to him.

Notes: A cover of Dave Matthews’s The Space Between. I think we really pulled this one off. The mid-section is a bit rough but it pulls through cleanly at the end.

Notes: A cover of The Man of Constant Sorrow from the O Brother, Where Art Thou? soundtrack. Me, my best southern twang, and a gathering of friends behind me. It was a real highlight of this show for sure.
