Welcome Back Carter

Well, here’s to a new engine! After discussions with numerous people about their preferred blogging engine, I’ve settled on using WordPress. There’s quite a bit of flexibility with WordPress I’d never had with Blogger or LiveJournal that I’m looking forward to generating new entries with.

New Features

• Entry Splits – The “front page” portion of an entry followed by the rest of the entry. LJ users can think of it as an lj-cut if that makes it any easier. (Note: I’m curious to see actually how RSS feeds handle this part!)
• Categories – One of the things I’ve really wanted for a long time is categories. I know some people only want to read my political postings, others are just interested in hearing technical news. Now that I can categorize and split entries, I can write a bit more in-depth on topics that really get my blood going. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve refrained from writing further into a story simply because I didn’t want to eat up space for other bites. I don’t have to adhere to that approach any longer.
• Interaction – Though Blogger had/has full trackback capabilities, it was/is a bitch to implement. WordPress makes it extremely easy with a simple ‘enable’ checkbox.

So, here’s to hoping for a new and fruitful chapter in my ever evolving blogger experience!
